(a) Persons who require health services for or have a health condition including, but not limited to, those specified below shall not be admitted or retained in a residential care facility for the elderly: (5) Residents who depend on others to perform all activities of daily living for them as set forth in Section 87459, Functional Capabilities. What the official deficiency says

(c) If the resident's physician has stated in writing that the resident is unable to determine his/her own need for nonprescription PRN medication, but can communicate his/her symptoms clearly, facility staff designated by the licensee shall be permitted to assist the resident with self-administration, provided all of the following requirements are met: (2) Once ordered by the physician the medication is given according to the physician's directions. This requirement is not met as evidenced by: Deficient Practice Statement Based on record review and LPA observation, the licensee did not comply with the section cited above as R2's medication Citirizine HCL 10 mg tabs had one (1) missing pill, which poses a potential health, safety or personal rights risk to persons in care.
