Make sense of official assisted living inspection records - and make informed decisions

Choosing a senior living facility is a big step, and it is often made quickly, under stress, and on behalf of someone else. Families should not have to rely on scattered agency pages or hard-to-read reports when deciding who will care for a parent or partner.

Senior living facilities are licensed and inspected by state agencies. State agencies publish inspection reports online, but many families do not know these reports exist, and the reports can be hard to interpret, and patterns can be hard to spot.

SeniorLivingFacts.com collects and analyzes public official records, processes them, and presents the information in a clearer, easier-to-use format.

How SeniorLivingFacts started

After launching the DaycareFacts.com project, which was triggered by my own need for childcare facilities information to compare my daughter's current daycare vs the one we were planning on transferring her to, taking on assisted living facilities seemed like a natural progression. Senior living facility licensing and inspection situation is similar to childcare: licensed by the states, inspected by state officials, and reports are published online. They are still hard to read, and not intuitive to be truly helpful.

In other words - the data is available, but disorganized and barely usable.

I built SeniorLivingFacts.com on the same core principles as my childcare facilities tool: free for the public, facts-first, and easy to scan and digest.

This project, which in a way is an extension of DaycareFacts.com, fits my experience, expertise and interests well: vast amounts of data, data analysis, statistics, and software engineering.

The goal of the project is to make the available data quickly understandable, intuitive and helpful in making the important decision of selecting an assisted living facility.

California is just the beginning. Eventually, I plan to cover all of the US, add facility types, and introduce additional features to become even more useful in this important decision making process.
